Panel Discussion: Zuidas Futures

Panel Discussion: Zuidas Futures

The 7th of October means the very last event of Palace Ruin! Good riddance! Together with Petra Heck of TAAK, James Beckett will reflect on the nature and intent of the project, and the elaborate architecture and music programmes. This is followed by a panel discussion led by Arjen Oosterman, based on the theme ‘Zuidas Futures’. Referring to possible outcomes of this district, this debate is to be constructed by a panel of contrasts – exploring scenarios that are advocated by differing parties.

The speculative side of thinking in ‘future’ or ‘futures’ as something planned or feasible will be discussed. Futures are also financial contracts in which one speculates on depreciation or appreciation of (packages of) stocks or bonds. This final meeting will thus be about the manipulability of this open urban district as part of the city and the Amsterdam region.

Speakers

Irene Ponec: Architect, Manager Marketing & Concept development at Ymere.
Gideon Boie: Architect-philosopher, and partner of independent research and activism office BAVO.
Judith Lekkerkerker: consultant, researcher, writer and editor of Ruimtevolk.nl.
Sebastiaan Capel: Chairman at the administration committee of Amsterdam Zuid, and former councillor of D66 Amsterdam.

Closing Ceremony

In their third meeting together, DNK Ensemble and Riley Harmon enact the closing ceremony for Palace Ruin – bridging the pensive and the spectacular, equating music, sound, object, action, time, and setting.
