VOLUME 68 hosted 13 conversations in which architects and designers meet
inspiring figures outside of their bubble to find points of engagement and exchange
notes on professional practices. Volume 68 is now available in the magazine’s
webshop and at NAi Booksellers, among other places.
Architecture and design have a long legacy of operating from inside their respective bubbles:
reinforcing their own aesthetics, logic, networks and vocabulary with the effect of becoming
self-referential and exclusive. These bubbles shape who architects collaborate with, how
projects take form, and ultimately, who benefits from spatial production.
Marking the occasion of VOLUME’s contribution to the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale
curated by Carlo Ratti, VOLUME 68 hosted 13 conversations in which architects and
designers meet inspiring figures outside of their bubble to find points of engagement and
exchange notes on professional practices. The issue includes illustrations by Michelle
Mildenberg and is materialized by Irma Boom Office. Stephan Petermann is editor in chief of
VOLUME, María Mazzanti is managing editor.
The participants are Andrea González, Ethel Baraona Pohl, Gabriel Fontana, Ippolito
Pestellini Laparelli, Juana Salcedo, Julia Minson, Netherlands Angry Architects, Paul
Cournet, Rem Koolhaas, Rimini Protokoll, WAI Think Tank, Ludwig Engel, David Zilber,
Silvia Dal Dosso, Andy Piper, Pelin Tan, Sjeng Scheijen, Daniela Maldonado Salamanca,
Peter van Assche, Hanno Pijl, Félix “Tito” Trinidad, Roger Bernat, Olivier Létang, Céline
Zimmer, Paulette Lenert and Evgeny Morozov.
The magazine is available in the VOLUME webshop (both digital and hard copy) and at NAi
Booksellers. Subscribers to VOLUME receive all issues at home. VOLUME is also available at
