Birzeit is one of the larger villages north of Ramallah containing many archeological and historical sites. The Birzeit University provides the village with a multi-cultural population.

The project undertook the restoration of Birzeit’s historic area by rehabilitating and reusing its old abandoned buildings and infrastructure with the involvement of the residents. With the rehabilitation of the historic center Riwaq also contributes to developing public spaces and infrastructure and upgrading public services and tourism. The redevelopment is used to encourage economic, cultural and tourist activities. The project should become a model to rehabilitate 16 historical centers in Palestine and create a nation-wide network.
