The Not-So-Easy Systems Change Meet-Up

On the occasion of the launch of VOLUME 63rd issue, the Not-So-Easy Systems Change meet-up brings together experts and novices in the field of circular interior design. Organised by VOLUME, Archis, Nieuwe Instituut, Circu-leren and Fiction Factory, the meet-up aims to facilitate an honest exchange to untangle the practical steps needed towards circular design. The event consists of a closed round table session, followed by a public recap and presentations by Ruth Baumeister and Jan Jongert.

About VOLUME 63: The Not-So-Easy Guide to Circular Interior Design

The Not-So-Easy Guide to Circular Interior Design is a magazine issue guest-edited by Marieke van den Heuvel, a spatial designer and cultural anthropologist. She argues that most sustainable and circular design resources are either too thin, biased and glossy or too complex and inaccessible. VOLUME 63 aims to bridge the gap by making useful information accessible to both novice and expert. The result is a useful guide to help readers and designers untangle the complex web of interlocking challenges that keep us from living up to our circular ambitions.

Expert sessions and public programme

The programme of The Not-So-Easy Systems Change Meet-Up takes place at Fiction Factory in Amsterdam. The event starts with a closed round table session (15.30 – 17.30) with both experts and novices, bringing together representatives from all aspects of circular design and construction. In the evening, doors open to the public (18.00 – 20.00). After a short recap of the round table session, Ruth Baumeister (Aarhus School of Architecture) gives a mini lecture on the culture of cleaning and maintenance. She is followed by a presentation of Jan Jongert (Superuse Studios) on circular design.

About the organisers

This event is co-organised by VOLUME, Archis, Nieuwe Instituut, Circu-leren and Fiction Factory. Nieuwe Instituut is the Netherlands national museum for architecture, design and digital culture. The collaboration between Archis, publisher of Volume, and the Nieuwe Instituut, reflects a broader conviction that the complex issues facing society today can only be addressed through joint efforts. Fiction Factory is a construction studio founded in 1989 that creates sustainable exhibitions and interiors, as well as complicated one-off productions. Circu-leren was founded by Marije Remigius and has over twenty years of experience in interior construction, with a focus on collaboration throughout the design and construction chain to make interiors more sustainable.
