Archis is an international non-profit organization for architecture and beyond. Archis organizes interdisciplinary research projects resulting in publications and events, together with a large network of individuals, institutes and knowledge organizations. Archis aims to articulate new or upcoming spatial agendas by bringing together global views and experiences on the cultural, societal and political meaning of architecture. Together with Nieuwe Instituut, Archis publishes VOLUME, a bi-annual magazine focused on architecture and design.
VOLUME is a bi-annual magazine for architecture and design. In its previous forms, the magazine was known as Archis (1986-1997), Wonen (1973-1986), TABK – Tijdschrift voor Architectuur en Beeldende Kunsten (1960-1973), and Het Katholieke Bouwblad (1929-1960). In 2004, Archis reinvented itself as VOLUME magazine, joining forces with AMO and C-Lab, a think tank at the GSAPP of Columbia University. Archis remained active as its publisher.
Since 2023, VOLUME magazine is a collaboration between Archis and Nieuwe Instituut. The magazine is a cross-pollinator between the in-depth editorial content of VOLUME and the research and programmes of the Nieuwe Instituut, while maintaining its editorial independence.
