AFGHANISTAN: Bagh-e Babur Public Garden

Theatre of the war destruction, Baghe Babur, one of the historical landmarks of Afghanistan is the focus of a rehabilitation program started in 2002 involving the Aga Khan Trust of Culture in collaboration with the Kabul Municipality and the Ministry of Information and Culture. The project focused primarily on addressing the needs of the inhabitants by providing employment and re-establishing displaced families. Another goal of the project is the restoration of the original character of the garden. In 2008 the independent Baghe Babur Trust took responsibility of the project attracting an ever growing number of Afghans visitors. The surroundings settlements of the garden also received investments. This project participates in the cultural recovery of the Afghan population.
